Certainly much of the material, and indeed the process of making Concrete Rain, reflect the idea home coming .
“Making 'Concrete Rain' happened almost by accident. I'd written some new songs, had been playing them with a loop station, and by chance arranged to go in the studio with David, initially for one day—which quickly turned into a week. I thought, wow, this is really beautiful. The tracks felt like they wanted to come to life."
Concrete Rain opens with the gospel-blues influenced 'Been Here Too Long', with its warm, rich vocals and bursting, harmonic refrains. There's a change of pace with the up-tempo 'What Is The Use Of This Love?'—a syncopated, stand out track full of poetry and bluesy funk. The EP reaches its height of acoustic emotion with the soaring imagery and swirling melodies on 'More To The Eye', a song Sarah describes as "the unity beneath superficial disparity". Finally, the catchy title track 'Concrete Rain' brings the EP to a rootsy, wondrous close.
